Teach Yourself German Phrases – Double Your Vocabulary

It goes without saying that one of the most important aspect of learning a language is to have a large and varied vocabulary.  This not only provides you with greater choice and understanding, but also allows you to get your point across even if you’re not sure how to form the  sentence, or use “filler” words.

By building your German vocabulary you open up a number of German phrases that will be interchangeable, by just swapping words in and out of the basic sentence structure. This of course gives you great competency and is an absolutely lethal way to get fluent much quicker than using traditional methods of study.

Tip One – How to Double Your German Vocabulary

Write down 5-10 vocabulary words on a palm card every night and learn them before going to bed. The next night add another 5-10 vocabulary words to your list and learn the additional words.

The secret to this method is consistency, as you need to keep reviewing and learning previously learnt German vocabulary.

This method seems like quite a lot of work and effort, and that is true (nothing worthwhile comes easy, and if id did it wouldn’t really be worthwhile). But after a few nights of putting in the works, you will start to find that you remember the previous night’s vocabulary, and as your increase your vocabulary list it actually becomes easier to remember the words.

So start tonight with 5-10 Keywords, and by the end of the week you could have increased your German vocabulary by as much as 70 words. These 70 new words will open up countless new German phrases, and really help you communication instantly.

Side note: I always recommend that my students choose topics of interest, and group each of the nights words by topic. So for example on the first night write 7 words about food, second night weather etc. This way you stay focused and can build relevance in your vocabulary.

Hope it helps, and have fun learning the German language.
